Hey, at least Cassie's getting her run-through right now. :)

According to the most recent release date, the US version doesn't come out until May. I'm not going to use the US version for the LP, though I'll buy it on or near release.

Also, if you wanted some more exposure for this thing feel free to post it onto the blog, I'll pretty much approve anything you write for it dude.

If you do, though, one small request. At the start of the post put a tag line in italics then have a ton of spaces after it so the rest of the post it's displayed on the homepage, 75 is the magic number, so it would look like

*remove
_ = Space

[*i]Tagline goes here, yay!![*/i]__________________________________________________

Thanks, Legend, I'll take advantage of the advertising!

Last we left our heroine, she was trapped in a world of monster spirits...

Wait, what am I wearing?

Right, new game. Everyone, meet the new Lyra.

Hey there.

Rather than dropping you in the story right from the start, you start from the Main Menu, where you can do all sorts of World Championship-y things, access the Duelist Menu (where the shop and Password Machine now live), Duel random spirits, go online, or view a tutorial. The structure of the tutorial is totally new, Dark Magician Girl will analyze your deck for you, teach you how to build a deck ( Listen to her, she's got good advice!), or, of course, teach you how to actually play the game.

Starter Deck
22 Monsters
1 Alien Shocktrooper
1 Frostosaurus
2 Gem-Knight Garnet
1 Anarchist Monk Ranshin
1 Armored Bee
1 Chiron the Mage
1 Des Koala
1 Exploder Dragon
2 Giant Rat (not 3)
1 Mobius the Frost Monarch
3 Naturia Cherries
1 Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter
1 Super-Nimble Mega Hamster
2 Trident Warrior
1 Winged Rhynos
1 X-Saber Airbellum
1 Zaborg the Thunder Monarch

11 Spells
1 Axe of Despair
2 Fissure
1 Hammer Shot
1 Intercept Wave
1 Lucky Iron Axe
1 Monster Reincarnation
1 Shield Crush
2 Shrink
1 Twister

7 Traps
1 Dust Tornado
1 Limit Reverse
1 Raigeki Break
2 Seven Tools of the Bandit
2 Trap Hole

4 Extra
1 Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth
1 Lightning Warrior
1 Magical Android
1 X-Saber Wayne

15 Side
1 Concecrated Light
1 Delg, the Dark Monarch
1 Magna Drago
1 Reese the Ice Mistress
1 Saber Beetle
1 Double Cyclone
1 Foolish Return
1 Heat Wave
1 Twister
1 Warrior Elimination
1 Chaos Trap Hole
1 Crevice into the Different Dimension
1 Dust Tornado
1 Light-Imprisoning Mirror
1 Trap Jammer

This is what we start off with.

Not bad! Not nearly as nice as my Enforcer Sorceress deck, but it'll do.

Right. The theme is EARTH/Beatdown, and the Side Deck is actually decently constructed as a Side Deck. Will we actually use it? Probably not.

Starter Deck (Turbo)

The Turbo Duel version of the starter is almost identical to the basic, except it has to use Speed Spells ( Duh?). Silver Contrails is an odd pick given only Armored Bee and Winged Rhynos are WIND monsters, but otherwise it's still solid.

Going into the Free Duel menu, you'll notice a Duel Settings option. It only has two options that change things during a duel. The first is confirming cards after your opponent plays one (mercifully, set to "off" by default this time), and the second is an option to choose whether or not a confirmation window is displayed when you want to Chain to a card you activated (set to "ON" by default).

This is the new CPU duelist menu, not too much different except now there are only 4 CPU duelists per page. We start with 5 unlocked, the four you see there (Wattmole is rocking some cool shades), plus Tiki Curse on the next page. But that's not why anyone's here.

You mean we finally get to play the game?

Exactly.

Click Me! - Intro Movie

Well, that wasn't very expository.

(...)

(...)

(Obviously, I click yes. No should take you to DMG's how to play tutorial.)

In this world, there are 4 types of duels. By mastering duels of varying styles, you'll be able to develop your talents as a duelist.

(Those would be Normal (standing), Match, Turbo, and Rental duels, by the way.)

Please note that event progression in 5D's Story mode can only be saved at certain parts of the story.

(Save points!)

Well, there you have it. Now please enjoy your journey in 5D's Story Mode!

(Hey, the chapter slides are back from Reverse of Arcadia!)

MC: Who would have predicted that things would turn out the way they have? Was this fate? Was this destiny? Was this nothing more than pure chance?! No! This is the product of hard work, and never giving up! From Crash Town, she has fought her way up the ranks showing unbelievable courage and spirit! And her name is...

??: ... ... ... ...Lyra!!! Are you not EVER gonna wake up or what?!

Wha..?

What's wrong with you today? It's me, Klaus! I bet you were dreaming about being a hotshot turbo duelist again, weren't ya?

No! Well, maybe a little...

I know you've been saying you want to be a turbo duelist in the City, but that's nothing but a fantasy. Anyway, I'm going to work. I've got to go dig up Dyne from the mine. Dyne is necessary to make Duel Runners run, and excavating it is how we make our living here.

Klaus, I know. I'm not a child.

(Well, at least it saved me from explaining it.)

Anyway, I'll be back later. *starts walking, then suddenly stops and turns back to Lyra* Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Your deck is on top of the table. A real duelist will always keep his deck by his side, no matter what.

(As you can see, there is a Save Point here, as well as the deck Klaus mentioned on the table. First things first!)

Data saved.

(All right, we've got our deck! Turns out, by the way, the Duelist Menu actually takes you back to the main menu now. However, saving in the main menu won't save your story progression, you still need the save points for that.)

Morning to you.

Come on, Nico, quit being so slow and lazy!

I can't help it, you're too fast! You're going to fall down and hurt yourself someday, you know.

Heh, I'm not a little kid, so I think I'll be okay. ...Oh yeah! Today's the day that the card shop is finally going to open! I can't just stand around here and wait like this... I'm gonna go ahead and go back to our hideout! *runs off*

*sigh*... After I just told him it's dangerous to be runnning around like that... You should come with us! We'll be at our hideout in the mountain north of the crossroads. *leaves*

First, a quick look around. Don't want to miss any loot.

Oh, come on!

(These would be the Crossroads Nico mentioned. The west building is Barbara's flower shop, and the east Iranami's card shop. Unfortunately, trying to get into the card shop yields)

Oh, okay.

(And this is Barbara of the flower shop. She doesn't have anything else to say just yet.)

And still no loot.

(To the east and west are the representatives rival families that control the Dyne mine, as well as a couple more closed buildings. To the north, then.)

Oh, hey, loot!

There's something on the ground. What luck! It was a card!

Meh.

Ah, there you are! There's something I really wanna show you Lyra. Check it out!

I'm sure you'll have a good time. But it'll take a little bit to get ready, so wait a few minutes!

Okay... How about we duel until everything's ready?

I could use a good game. Sure.

Hey, do you remember the Crash Town Style rule to determine who goes first? I can teach you!

(They let you skip the tutorial, but since I've never done this, we'll listen in.)

All right, refresh me.

First, 5 cards are dealt to each player face down. On the front of these cards are commands corresponding to the ABXYLR Buttons and +Control Pad. Next, when the cards in front of you are turned over, enter those commands as fast as you can. Unless you input a correct command, you won't be able to proceed. You cannot use the stylus. Whoever inputs all their commands first will be able to go first in the duel. Just let me know when you're ready. You can check the Crash Town Style rules too, if you want!

(Long story short, this is to simulate the rule in the anime where whoever drew first got the first turn. For practicality, I save before dueling West.)

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2276/f1z.mp4

(West's thing...appears to be 0 ATK monsters and Battle Phase denial. Very frustrating, but pretty much an auto-win unless he stalls long enough you deck yourself. Also, the button mapped to Start is the "Next Move" button. Press it, and the AI will consider the field and suggest a move for you. In the demonstration, it suggested I use Fissure to deny West the effect of Cyber Valley.)

Save a replay of the duel you just had?

(No. Not worth it.)

Aww, I lost... Something's not right...

Monsters with actual ATK would help.

Here, I'm not gonna use this, so I guess you can have it!

Woah! Really? Thanks!

(Spore is one of the four tuners at the heart of Plant Synchro. Not only is it a Level 1 Tuner, but by removing 1 Plant-Type monster in your Graveyard from play, you can Special Summon it and raise its level by the Level of the removed monster. Of course, you can only use Spore's effect once a duel, but it's still awesome.)

You're always in a hurry, West. That's why you lose! You should relax a little.

Nico, he runs 0 ATK stall. That's about as relaxed a deck type as you get.

Oh, be quiet, Nico! Are you ready yet or what?!

Just he's not very relaxed.

I'm almost ready... I just can't find this one card...

What are you doing? Don't worry about it. I'll give you one of mine later! You go ahead and duel Lyra!

Fine, okay. Lyra, let's duel!

(Once more, save first.)

I'm not that good yet, but I want to see what I can do, so don't go easy on me!

Hm, I thought I would lose. Dueling is hard, but that's what makes it fun! Here, you can have this card. I'm not good enough to use it.

Of course you are...on second thought, I'll take it anyway.

(Krebons is a Level 2 Psychic-Type Tuner which can negate any attack made against it for 800 LP. It was the primary Emergency Teleport target during the Tele-DAD era, and is still a very good generic Tuner.)

Oh, are you done with your duel? I'm all ready here, too!

Thanks, West. Let's have Lyra take a look at it. What we wanted to show you is a duel puzzle that we came up with. We thought of 5 different puzzles, so you have to pick one. If you can get 3 questions right, we'll give you a prize!

I don't really remember what we came up with, so Nico will take care of that.

(It's Duel Puzzle time! Speaking of which, you can now create your own in the Duelist Menu! I might post a couple as brainteasers for you guys, if you'd like. But first, Nico and West's. Can you solve them without looking at the spoiler?)

Nice work, Lyra!

Thanks, those were pretty challenging.

Here's the present we promised.

If you like, you can make your own duel puzzles, too, Lyra.

(Guess I jumped the gun there.)

You can edit a duel puzzle under Menu > Duelist Menu > Duel Puzzle.

Toru! You're the one who said you were too busy putting together your Duel Runner to play with us!

Oh yeah, sorry about that. I just gotta finish it so I can hurry up and get to the City.

Yeah, you better! You keep saying you're gonna be the top turbo duelist in the world!

Not if I've got anything to say about it.

But since you're here, does that mean you finished your Duel Runner?

Of course... (pause) I haven't! I just stopped by to pick up a tool that I need.

Whaaat? I really wanna hurry up and see your Duel Runner! *sound in the distance* Ah! The card shop is open! I don't have time to be sitting around here talking to you, Toru! *runs off*

Hey, don't say that! Wait... Today is when the card shop opens? I completely forgot. I guess I'll go check it out sometime later. Oh yeah, the tool that I needed. *walks over to a crate being used as a table* I'd hate to forget the one thing I came here for. Anyway, I'll see you guys later.

Why don't you go check out the card shop too, Lyra? It's right there at the crossroads.

I think I will. See ya, Nico.

Oh, Lyra! I think I got pretty good cards in this deck! Oh yeah, a little later, this shop is going to hold a Rental Deck Duel Tournament! A rental deck is just a deck that's already been made, so you can try all kinds of different decks! They're different from the regular structured decks at the shop because they are all original! But the lady at the shop said one of the competitors hasn't shown up yet. Lyra, why don't you enter the tournament in his place? Nico and I already signed up! I can't wait to go up against you in a Rental Deck Duel, Lyra!

Huh..

(Immediately after entering the card shop, Iranami accosts us, asking about a Rental Deck Duel.)

But...I just want to buy cards...

Iranami: *not listening* You know about the Rental Deck Duel Tournament we're about to start, right? Of course you do! Actually, one of our participants hasn't showed up yet, so we're wondering if you'd join instead!

All right, fine.

Iranami: ...You will? Thank you so much! Now we can start the tournament! Just tell us your name, please.

It's Lyra.

Iranami: ...Lyra. Got it! All right, just come talk to me when you're ready to start.

Okay. But first, shopping!

(The shop hasn't changed much. We still have access to Dark Beginning 1, Dark Beginning 2, Dark Revelation Volume 1, Dark Revelation Volume 2, Synchro Awaken!!, Invasion of Worms!!, and Justice Strikes Back!! here at the start, but we also get a random Structure Deck.)

(Mine is Zombie Madness...)

(Not my first choice, but I go ahead and buy Zombie Madness, as well as 20 Synchro Awaken packs. Notably, I pull 2 Dark Magician, 2 Blue-Eyes White Dragon, 2 Red-Eyes B. Dragon, 3 Flamvell Urquizas, and the Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier I was searching for. And I save.)

Okay, let's get to this tournament.

Iranami: All right, the tournament is about to begin. Everyone meet up at the crossroads. *scene change to Crossroads* Thank you all for waiting! Let the Rental Deck Duel Tournament begin! This is a round-robin tournament between our four competitors. The winner will recieve a prize! Let's begin! The first match-up is...Lyra VS West!

I can't believe I have to go up against you first, Lyra!

Yeah, bad luck on your part, huh?

Iranami: West is a youngster from Crash Town, but he can duel with the best of them! Let's see what he's got! He's up against Lyra, who entered at the very last minute! This should be a good match! Pick your deck and let's duel! Just remember, you have to turn those decks back in when you're done!

And here's the first choice of the LP! For sake of ease, I'll just pilot 1 Rental Deck the entire tournament. Our options are:

Synchro Warriors (Key Card: Junk Archer)
A deck focused around Synchro Summoning monsters with Synchron Tuners.

Emperor, Arise! (Key Card: Caius, the Shadow Monarch)
A deck focused around Tribute Summoning the Monarch series of monsters and slowly bleeding the opponent of resources until they ahve nothing left.

Blackwing Frenzy (Key Card: Blackwing Armor Master)
Storm & swarm Blackwings, pretty standard.

Forth, Machina (Key Card: Machina Fortress)
Machina-Gadget deck based on summoning Machina Fortress and a continuous stream of Gadget monsters.

Lightsworn Judgment (Key Card: Judgment Dragon)
It's a...Lightsworn Deck. You ought to know how it works.

Fusion Heroes (Key Card: Elemental Hero Absolute Zero)
Hero Beatdown using the 5 Elemental Hero Attribute Fusions for massive flexibility in Fusion Summoning.

Dragunity Flight (Key Card: Dragunity Knight - Vajrayana)
A deck focused on the Synchro Summoning power of Dragunity Dux and Dragunity Phalanx, as well as the other Dragunity monsters.

Infernity Infinity (Key Card: Infernity Archfiend)
A deck focused on using the effects of Infernity monsters to quickly swarm Synchro Monsters. Focuses on the Handless Combo.

Fight, Gladiators! (Key Card: Gladiator Beast Gyzarus)
A Gladiator Beast deck that uses the various Gladiator Beast monsters as a toolbox to have the right answer to any situation.

Dragon's Den (Key Card: Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon)
A dragon deck focused on using Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to summon massive monsters turn after turn.

X-Sabers, Assemble! (Key Card: An X-Saber card I don't recognize)
It's an X-Saber Deck, I'm not sure what exactly they do.

Dimensional Ruler (Key Card: Guardian Eatos)
A Dimensional Fissure/Macro Cosmos based deck that uses its empty Graveyard to freely Special Summon Guardian Eatos.

Six Samurai Clan (Key Card: Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En)
A Six Samurai deck based on overwhelming the opponent quickly with a flurry of Special Summons.

Fabled Invaders (Key Card: Fabled Ragin)
A deck based on rapid Synchro Summons through the effects of Fabled monsters.

Herald of Doom (Key Card: Herald of Perfection)
A deck based on locking the opponent out of all plays through the effect of Herald of Perfection.

I'll be continuing tomorrow, regardless of votes. So vote now! Winner is the deck with the most votes, or I'll break a tie by choosing whichever one I like better.

Hey, seems like we see Lyra finally do a Turbo Duel BEFORE even waking up. :) Not bad. Btw, Servus, I might send the latest pics of Dragon Wing to ya as well. :D

I have to admit, tho... The deck that we start off with is WAY better than the last two times.

It's Sevus!!

Sorry, pet peeve. I'd gladly take a look...but don't forget to vote for a rental deck! I'll be doing videos of the entire tournament to show it off, so put in a vote for whatever looks interesting.

In fact, you can vote for your top 3.

Here's my three in order of how I'd use 'em:
1-tie) Blackwing Frenzy/Dragon's Den - Both of 'em have served me well in the past.
2) Synchro Warriors - A close second, simply cause of who I've got my name as.
3) Dragunity Flight - I'm actually getting used to this one both in Reverse and Transer.

Okay, so we've got one vote. I know I've done a lot of dragons, but they are my favorite type and they're tied with Blackwings (which I hate) in Yusei's top 3, so let's do Dragon's Den! Here's the list (I hope you appreciate it, I had to transcribe from dueling).

Also, sorry about the late update, but my brother's cat decided yesterday that the surge protector beneath a computer desk was a better place to relieve herself than the litter box. Took out the surge protector and the breaker it was on, and nearly started an electrical fire. So yeah.

22 Monsters
3 Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon
3 Red-Eyes Wyvern
2 Dread Dragon
2 Koa'ki Meiru Drago
2 Masked Dragon
2 Strong Wind Dragon
2 Totem Dragon
2 Vice Dragon
1 Debris Dragon
1 Delta Flyer
1 Exploder Dragon
1 Prime Material Dragon

10 Spells
1 Book of Moon
1 Burial from a Different Dimension
1 Cold Wave
1 Dark Hole
1 Dragon's Mirror
1 Future Fusion
1 Giant Trunade
1 Gold Sarcophagus
1 Lightning Vortex
1 Mystical Space Typhoon

8 Traps
1 Bottomless Trap Hole
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device
1 Dimensional Prison
1 Divine Wrath
1 Mirror Force
1 Return from the Different Dimension
1 Starlight Road
1 Torrential Tribute

15 Extra
3 Five-Headed Dragon
3 Stardust Dragon
3 Trident Dragion
2 Exploder Dragonwing
2 Iron Chain Dragon
1 Black Rose Dragon
1 Red Dragon Archfiend

Dragon's Den is pretty much a Disaster Dragon build. The idea is to control your opponent with cards like Prime Material Dragon, Stardust Dragon, and Koa'ki Meiru Drago, while using the effect of Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to overwhelm your opponent with powerful Dragon-Type monsters. This isn't a great build, but it's certainly one I wouldn't mind having.

West uses Infernity here, which is often a fairly nasty deck. Back in the March 2010 format, they were incredibly powerful, being able to summon three Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier in a single turn once they got set up. Unfortunately, with Infernity Launcher limited, Infernity are forced to play a much more control-oriented game, which is very difficult to do without Infernity Barrier, a TCG-exclusive from The Shining Darkness. He never really stood a chance...

Don't feel down. I just outplayed you.

The first match was won by Lyra!

(You're given the opportunity to save between rounds. It is prudent to do so.)

Okay, and now for our next duel! Lyra VS Nico!

Go easy on me, okay?

You wouldn't earn it if I did.

West's older sister, Nico! Normally she's a kind, loving sister, but I wonder about when she duels! And our surprise competitor, Lyra! Let's see how the mystery unfolds! Let's hope they put on a show for us! Pick a deck and let's duel!

As you can see, Nico uses a Blackwing deck for this duel. Blackwings are Crow's signature archetype in the anime, and were made to be broken out of the box. Of course, that means they dominate over in OCG-land, which in turn means that every banlist tries to kill Blackwings. Unfortunately, every banlist also fails to kill Blackwings. The idea is to use Black Whirlwind to keep your hand constantly replenished with Blackwings, and use Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North and Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind to instantly Synchro.

Good luck on your next duel.

Thanks, same to you.

And it's a win for Lyra!

(Once more, you're allowed to save. Do so!)

All right folks, we're on our last duel! The final battle will be... Lyra VS Narumi!

(Yeah, like before, all the shop girls have the same sprite.)

Narumi: But it wouldn't be interesting if I just let you win easily now, would it?

How unprofessional! Narumi has declared that she will win her own tournament! How will the dark horse react to this rude behavior? Can Narumi be defeated? I want to root for the customer, but I don't want to get yelled at later by Narumi... Let's watch!

Narumi's choice here is the Gladiator Beast deck. The idea is to use the various effects of the Gladiator Beasts to tag out to one another, summoning the right Gladiator Beast for the situation at hand. Gladiator Beasts can tag out after battling a monster, returning to the Deck to Special Summon one with a different name, and most of them have effects that trigger when they're summoned by a Gladiator Beast monster. There's one that destroys a monster, one that destroys a Spell or Trap Card, one that goes from 1800 to 2100 original ATK, one that goes from 2100 to 2400 DEF, one that adds a Gladiator Beast monster from your deck to your hand, one that adds a Gladiator Beast card from your Graveyard to your hand, and one that allows you to Special Summon a Gladiator Beast from the Graveyard, plus a couple of awesome contact fusions. Elemental Hero Prisma is often teched for that reason, as it lets you easily summon Gladiator Beast Gyzarus in combination with Test Tiger. Gladiator Beasts are a common pick at the start of a new format because the build has been well-standardized and their strategy is so different from any other deck that they're not often affected by the Forbidden/Limited List changes.

Narumi: Aww, I lost. You win. Congratulations.

Thanks, that was a tough match.

Lyra is the winner by beating the evil shopkeeper, Narumi! This concludes all the duels! The final results are in! Congratulations, Lyra! Here is a special card to commemorate your victory!

No way...a Dark End Dragon?! Thank you so much!

(Dark End Dragon is an amazing Lv8 Synchro. It requires DARK non-Tuner material, but by lowering its ATK and DEF by 500, once per turn it can send a monster your opponent controls to the Graveyard. Not destroy, send to the Graveyard, so protection from destruction is worthless. And 2600 ATK isn't bad to start off with at all. It was also first released as a Shonen Jump Championship prize card in the TCG.)

And so, this concludes the proceedings for our Rental Deck Duel Tournament. Thank you both to our participants and to those of you who came out to cheer them on! *fade to black*

Narumi: Ah, I almost forgot. Iranami, I have to speak with you about something later.

*scene returns*

Wow, Lyra! I can't believe you beat everyone!

Yeah, me either! I didn't think there was any way you could beat that Narumi girl.

She did have the advantage in that she knew all the decks...or at least the one she was using. I didn't think I could do so well with dragons, this is pretty awesome!

I want to be a better duelist! I'm gonna go back to the hideout and start training! *runs off*

Oh, that West... Doesn't he know Dad will be home soon? Klaus should be back already, too. I have to go pick up West!

(Okay! So that's Rental Deck Duels. But, you know what time it is? Dueling random people time! First, we'll do those Puzzles Lyra left unsolved.)

(And whose fault is that?)

(A-hem! Lyra takes care of those last two puzzles.)

Yeah, but I don't wanna come up with duel puzzles anymore, not if someone is gonna get them all right again!

Hey, isn't the point for someone to get it right? Don't be a poor sport about it.

If you like, you can make your own duel puzzles, too, Lyra. You can edit a duel puzzle under Menu > Duelist Menu > Duel Puzzle.

(I will show off that later. Now to duel them.)

(Remember how in Stardust Accelerator and Reverse of Arcadia, duelists would randomly give you cards after defeating them? Well, this is what Over the Nexus does instead. It's a game of Concentration, and if you match two identical cards, you win that card and get to play again. There's also a DP card, which nets you some DP and lets you play again, a One-Free-Miss card that lets you play again if you flip a card that doesn't match one already flipped, and a Surrender card that ends the game immediately. Each duelist has 6 cards you can win from them, and you can win up to 3 per game. If the game ends before you've found all the rewards, you'll play on the same sheet next time you duel that opponent. Once you clear a sheet, a new one is started. Thanks to the magic of Save States, I come away with:

8 Tornado
8 Crystal Seer
7 Swing of Memories
1 Dandylion
and I'd guess 800 DP. Meaning I only have 2 cards of his left to discover. Another duel and more Save States later awards me with a Cyber Vary and Majestic Mech - Ohka.)

(Which brings me to Nico. Her common cards are Restructer Revolution, Darksea Rescue, and Mei-Kou, Master of Barriers, and her Rares are Scapegoat, XX-Saber Faultroll, and Instant Fusion. I manage to actually get 3 Instant Fusion while looking for that last Rare.)

(Mr. Eastwood here is one of the guardians of the Ramon Group, one of the two households fighting for the rights to the Dyne mine to the north. His deck, Sparking Flint, is a LIGHT-Stun deck, which focuses on making the opponent utterly helpless. Thunder-King Rai-Oh prevents deck searching and can negate a Special Summon by Tributing itself, D.D. Warrior Lady removes threats, and cards like Forbidden Chalice and Honest allow his monsters to defeat targets in battle they otherwise wouldn't be able to. His common giveaways are Synthesis Spell, Limit Reverse, and The Earth - Hex-Sealed Fusion, and he rarely drops Necrovalley, Zoma the Spirit, and Black Salvo.)

(So it turns out that you get new Structure Decks in the shop every 10 wins or so. Since it's here, we might as well nab a copy of Spellcaster's Judgment.)

(Hey, there's something familiar!)

(While we're at it, we'll spend some of that DP on Dark Beginnings 1 and 2 packs. Unfortunately, the only staple S/T pulled was a pair of Solemn Judgments.)

(Our nervous friend is a guardian of the Malcom Family, the other argumentative household. His Minegishi: Scorpio deck is a Chaos deck, using some very powerful LIGHT and DARK monsters as fuel for Chaos Sorcerer. He gives away Unstable Evolution, Eternal Rest, and Acid Trap Hole as common cards, and Dark Armed Dragon(!), Vortex Trooper, and X-Saber Airbellum(!) for Rares. Now for World Championship mode!)

(Moja's Dingy Daredevil is a beast deck focused around the monster of the same name. Since Moja is a pretty weak monster with an effect that's only decent, you shouldn't have any trouble thrashing him. Watch out for King of Beasts, however. His commons are also pretty bad: Warrior Elimination, Doppelwarrior, and Genetic Woman, but his rares are Gugnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier(!), Fires of Doomsday, and Black Salvo.)

(Cherry Inmato's Tomato Alliance is at least superficially similar to Nico's Pretty & Prettier deck in that it's a Plant deck that uses the Inmato series of monsters for draw power and a Synchro engine in himself. Again, not a threat unless he gets an early Synchro off and you have no cards that can deal with it, or he pulls Raging Mad Plants on you with a bunch of Plants in the Grave. For commons, he gives out Leeching the Light, E - Emergency Call, and Drill Synchron, and his rares are Tytannial, Princess of Camellias, Reinforcement of the Army, and Quickdraw Synchron. I was fortunate to get all six quickly.)

(Hip Hypnocorn is another Beast Deck, only this time with an Instant Synchro strategy. Egotistical Ape can be Special Summoned from the hand with a variable level, which lets him easily access the Synchro Monsters in his Extra Deck. He gives away Polymerization, Metaphysical Regeneration, and Mother Grizzly commonly, as well as Ancient Fairy Dragon, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Grow-up Bulb as rares. Defeating him for the first time also puts us over the 10 duel threshold for a new Structure, so Lyra picks up Blaze of Destruction.)

(Hey, that's in our deck! Naturia Cherries plays Organic Cherries, which is a...well, a Naturia deck. Naturia monsters are nature-based cards that have generally low ATK, but reactive effects. Their Synchro monsters lean towards the fantastic in both design and ability, with Naturia Beast being able to negate any spell simply by discarding 2 cards from the top of the deck, Naturia Barkion being able to negate any Trap by removing from play 2 cards in the Graveyard, and Naturia Gaeodrake, which is just massive at 3000 ATK. There's also a Naturia Landoise, but I forget what it does. Commons: Rush Recklessly, Ancient Rules, Anarchist Monk Ranshin. Rares: Naturia Beast, Naturia Cliff, Card Trooper.)

(Still rocking those shades. Wattmole's Watt's Up? is a Watt deck, which focuses around a series of elecrically charged animals with low ATK but pretty potent effects. Either attacking directly or the Field Spell Wattcastle will let him offset his disadvantage. Commons: Cursed Armaments, Different Dimension Ground, Gaia Soul the Combustible Collective. Rares: Junk Destroyer, Scapegoat, Parallel World Fusion.)

(Tiki Curse's Statues: Standby Deck is based on Flip Effect Monsters as well as the Tiki Curse and Tiki Soul Trap-Monsters. Pack a fair complement of Dust Tornados, Seven Tools of The Bandit, and Mxystical Space Typhoons, and you should be able to best him. Commons: Blind Spot Strike, Power Frame, Enraged Battle Ox. Rares: Ally of Justice Catastor(!), Zoma the Spirit, Tiki Soul. After the second duel, the 2010 starter became available, so that got picked up as well. Beating him 3 times marks the sixth duelist, which in turn grants access to World Championship Edition 1! Also unlocked another duelist.)

(At this point, I should be way out of my league. Galaxy Master is an Agent deck based off of SD20 - Lost Sanctuary. Notably, Agent-Angel is one of the dominant decks in Japan. Master Hyperion itself is a 2700 ATK monster that can summon itself by removing an Agent on the field, in his hand, or in his Graveyard, and then remove a Fairy-Type monster in his Graveyard from play to destroy 1 card on the field once per turn, twice if he has The Sanctuary in the Sky in play. The Agent of Mystery - Earth searches out any Agent (or Master Hyperion with Sanctuary), and The Agent of Miracles - Jupiter can remove an Agent in the Graveyard for an 800 ATK boost or send a card from his hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon any removed-from-play Fairy-Type monster. And that's before we get into the host of counter-traps and Fairy-Type monsters he can crush you with. Common: Celestial Transformation, Terraforming, Shining Angel. Rare: Master Hyperion, The Agent of Miracles - Jupiter, The Agent of Mystery - Earth.)

(Like Narumi used, Gyzarus has a Gladiator Beast deck, only more brutal. Make sure you're the one destroying monsters in battle, and don't let him play himself without a counter of some sort. Common: Naturia Forest, Embodiment of Apophis, The Earth - Hex-Sealed Fusion. Rare: Gladiator Beast Gyzarus, Gladiator Beast Bestiari, Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo.)

And with that done, I invest in more Dark Beginnings. Auspiciously the first pack of Dark Beginning 1 holds a Monster Reborn, and I get the Mirror Force I was looking for in Dark Beginning 2. One more 50-pack set of Dark Beginning 1, and I also get a Dark Hole. And now, my dear readers, I turn things over to you. With save-state card flip, DP is no longer an issue. So then, is there a deck you'd like to see Lyra build up over the course of the game? Perhaps she should aim for (a better version of) that Dragon's Den deck she piloted to victory in the tournament. Maybe we should borrow a strategy from the original King of Games and play a Dark Paladin deck. Perhaps we ought to put the cards won from Master Hyperion to good use and build an Agent-Angel deck. It's up to you, if you're willing to vote.

Aren't you forgetting someone?

(Ahh! I am indeed!)

(Iranami uses Iranami's Temptation, a deck that focuses on Spirit Monsters and Battle Denial. She can drop Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi with Mausoleum of the Emperor, which is very dangerous if it manages to inflict battle damage, and has the very annoying combo of The Dark Door, which allows each player to only attack once per turn and Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, which negates an attack then sets itself face-down again. Commons: D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation, Dark Spirit Art - Greed, Hane-Hane. Rares: Naturia Bamboo Shoot, The White Stone of Legend, Fiendish Chain. Finishing her off unlocked Fury from the Deep.)

The videos aren't showing up when you click the link? As for the images being broken, I'm not sure why that's happening.

Okay, fixed! Now I still need deck votes, or I'm just gonna build a Dark Paladin deck and she'll use that until the end game.

That being said, some options:

I have all of the Rental Decks as sample decks, so I can build towards any of them (so that transcription of Dragon's Den was unnecessary). Obviously things that revolve around recent strategies are going to be impossible for me to build at this point, but I can put together a basic Dragon deck (again), or even throw together something dealing with Monarchs. Here are some ideas that interest me that I can get working on immediately.

Agent-Angel: Master Hyperion handed over the two most critical cards to making this work, himself and The Agent of Mystery - Earth, as well as The Agent of Miracles - Jupiter. The other Agent monsters are in Dark Revelation Volume 2, as well as The Sanctuary in the Sky, and I can put together a fair little deck that'll only get better as we go on.

Dark Paladin: It'll be a while before I get access to Elemental Hero Stratos and Elemental Hero Prisma, which this deck really wants, but I can put something together right now just out of the Dark Revelation stuff.

Horus Lockdown: Pretty classic. I already can get Royal Decree, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon is available now, and we'll get access to Soul of the Duelist very soon. But this was Gavan's first strategy, if I recall, and it'll pretty much be a repeat of that if I use it.

Red-Eyes Burn: Dragon's Roar is available if I can get enough wins to cycle it into the shop, and I already have Red-Eyes B. Dragon, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, and Inferno Fire Blast available. No Wyvern for a while though.

Altered Structure Deck: Dragon's Roar, Zombie Madness, Blaze of Destruction, Fury from the Deep, Warrior's Triumph, Spellcaster's Judgment, and Invincible Fortress are available right now, and Lord of the Storm, Dinosaur's Rage, and Machine Re-Volt will be available shortly. I could use any one of those as a basis for a deck.

I say let's give a nod to Kenzan and Rex with a Dinosaur/Dragon Hybrid. :)

Also, I still can't see the videos.

But...but...but...I don't even like those characters!

That aside, Dragons and Dinosaurs really don't work well together, but unless you want to change your vote or someone else actually votes for something, I guess that's what I'll be doing.

Oh, and I got a YouTube account. Can you see the videos now?

Since Konami realized that no one on the ESRB actually bothers to play these games, and they can get away with things like Sherry's blatant innuendo in Tag Force 5 and still earn an E rating. Seriously, it's right there in the prologue!

There's a post game event that's much worse. Also! Suggest/vote on a deck type, please! This is a "Let's Play" not a "Let's Watch Sevus Play," after all.

Well, when I was talking about giving a nod to Kenzan and Rex, remember that Rex had a few Dragons in his Dinosaur deck. Also, if the pack with the Jurraks are out, you could get 'em. Trust me, they're fun.

Or, you could go Blackwings, if you don't wanna do Dinos.

Btw, I saw the videos, and the only thing I'm not liking so far is how you determine who's going to be going first, but that's the only thing I didn't like.

On a side note, I'm happy that Brionac's FINALLY gotten his own summoning animation now! :D

I remember Rex had Red-Eyes B. Dragon and Serpent Night Dragon (eww...) in his deck, and got Tyrant Dragon when he dueled Joey in the Orichalcos saga. That doesn't mean that a Dragon/Dino Hybrid is any more solid from a deckbuilding standpoint. I could go Gilasaurus + Soul Exchange to Tribute Summon high-level dragons (particularly Light and Darkness Dragon, once I can get that), if that would be acceptable?

So...I have an update partially done, but there's been a slight delay. You see, I got Dragon Age 2 Tuesday. Which I've been waiting for since I pre-ordered in January. So it's distracted me horribly. I've finished my first run, so hopefully I'll be able to tear myself away long enough to post an update.

Heh. I know how that can be. I haven't updated Duel Transer in a while either.

Mini-update! One of the features of Over the Nexus is that you can put your cards in virtual sleeves...that is, change the background image from the default YGO card back design. This is mostly a vanity thing as you don't need to protect virtual cards from shuffling, but it also lets you easily tell your cards apart from your partner's in Tag Duels.

That being said, you start with 4 sleeve designs out of a possible 20. Which is fine, except you unlock no additional card sleeve types through normal play. So I'm going to cheat and and show you all of them. If you like, Lyra can use a set.

These sleeves sport the official 5Ds logo, and come in Red, Black, or Silver as well as the Blue shown above. Those four are the default sleeves.

Here we have a design with the hero of 5Ds himself, Yusei Fudo, based off of the Duelist Pack -Yusei- artwork. Behind him, from right-to-left, are Junk Warrior, Stardust Dragon, and Nitro Warrior.

This one is patterned after the Duelist Pack -Yusei 2- pack design, and features the hero, and from left-to-right: Road Warrior, Junk Warrior, and Quickdraw Synchron.

As the title helpfully tells us, this is the crest of the Crimson Dragon cast in Blue, over a data pathway design. Also comes in Red and Gold.

From here on out we have sleeves with monster designs, so I'll just tell you who uses them. Black Rose Dragon is Akiza's Signer Dragon, and is probably the second most powerful of the set, being the heart if the Debu-Hime deck, and the preferred monster to summon through Debris Dragon in Plant Synchro.

Red Dragon Archfiend is Jack's signature monster, and the first Signer Dragon actually used in the anime. It also has three evolutions, which I'll cover when I get there. As far as gameplay goes, Red Dragon Archfiend's effect is situational, and potentially harmful, but it's a solid 3000 ATK monster with few drawbacks.

This card...is not a Signer Dragon, it's not even a Dragon. Rather, it's a machine, and used by Leo. It also represents him perfectly, as Leo desperately wants to be a Signer like Jack or Yusei, or even his sister Luna, while Power Tool Dragon wants to be a Signer Dragon, but falls short of being there. Both eventually succeed, but that's a card that's not in this game. Power Tool Dragon requires a deck be built around it to be effective...which Leo's is. Built around it, not effective.

On the other hand, Ancient Fairy Dragon is a Signer Dragon, with even more of a niche use than Red Dragon Archfiend. But against decks like Gravekeepers, Malefics, or Dragunity, being able to destroy their Field Spell constantly is excellent. In most cases though, Black Rose Dragon is better. Luna owns it in the anime...and that's about all that makes her deck notable. She's dueled a grand total of four times, and for all but the first of them, it was with her brother at her side.

Black-Winged Dragon is Crow's plot device...er...Signer Dragon, and often complained about because it didn't appear in the war against the Earthbound Immortals, and only exists because "oops, we made Crow a Signer. He needs a Dragon now." In gameplay terms...it's terrible. 2800 ATK needs to be backed by a good effect or you get outclassed by Red Dragon Archfiend, and Black-Winged Dragon doesn't deliver. Anti-burn is niche enough, but it loses ATK every time it stops burn damage, and turns it into a debuff effect...which is situational at best.

One of three Red Dragon Archfiend evolutions, Red Dragon Archfiend/Assault Mode only appeared in an OVA episode meant to promote the Assault Mode mechanic from Crimson Crisis. Now if only they could've done that for the other sets instead of trying to shoehorn them into the story haphazardly. This beast Dark Holes the field every time it attacks, making it a high risk/high reward type of card, as well as resurrecting Red Dragon Archfiend when it dies. I had a cool deck using this and Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, but Assault Mode cards have some very crippling weaknesses.

One of the Majestic (Savior) series of monsters, Majestic Star Dragon was used by Yusei three times - to defeat Dark Signer!Kalin, to defeat Dark Signer!Godwin, and to defeat Ghost's Meklord Emperor Wisel Infinity. It's a powerful enough card, but is difficult to summon and returns to the Extra Deck (leaving you with a Stardust Dragon) in the End Phase. It's also one of Stardust Dragon's four attempts to come up with something more broken than the original*

*Stardust Dragon is not really broken, just very strong.

I actually have every rarity of this card IRL: Ghost, Ultra, Ultimate, and Tin Secret. It was used by Jack Atlas once in the anime, in his duel against Dark Signer!Carly. It's also even harder to summon than Majestic Star Dragon, as its counterpart at least has Stardust Xiaolong to smooth the process. Still, it's not a terrible trade for your investment, just really hard to get out. After Jack summoned it, it was theorized the other Signer dragons would get the Majestic treatment.

Yusei's Acc...err...Cosmic? Synchro Monster, Shooting Star Dragon actually has a few nifty effects, and the Formula Synchron used to summon it isn't bad at all. It's multiple attack effect can be hit or miss, though. It's wasted if you don't have at least two Tuners in your top five cards, and if you don't reveal any, it can't attack at all.

Jack's answer to Shooting Star Dragon, Red Nova Dragon is actually Red Dragon Archfiend having absorbed the power of the last Earthbound Immortal - Red Nova (which was the slightly more punny Scar-Red Nova in Japan, the Japanese pronunciation of Scar-Red sounds phonetically similar to the word "scarlet," so I would have either kept it or named it Scarlet Nova Dragon here. *shrug*). It's the highest Level Synchro Monster at Level 12, and is almost unique in that it requires two Tuner Monsters to summon. It's a...decent card, but more of a win-more card in that you need to already be winning to have a chance at summoning it.

This mouthful of a name was used once by Yusei against Team Unicorn, I believe it was, where it was presented as his way to get around the Meklord Emperors' Synchro absorption effect. Which would have been nice and symbolic, if Synchro Monsters were useless in the face of Meklord Emperors, then they would regress to Fusion tactics to defeat them. But it was not to be, and the Fusion-Synchro monster only lasted two sets. It's a fair card, with a solid 3200 ATK, burn reflection, and the ability to remove from play a Dragon-Type Synchro in either Graveyard to pilfer its effect for the turn. Most of all, it has synergy with Super Polymerization as both Dragon-Type Synchros and Warrior-Type monsters are very common.

So that's it! There are the sleeves. Do you want Lyra to use a set?

I know this is a it odd to ask, I'm two sessions behind right now, is this in the 5D's cannon, or a new storylin altogether? Would probably help me make sense of this.

Stardust Accelerator, Reverse of Arcadia, and Over the Nexus are all alternate universe games based on a particular season of the 5Ds anime, and they take place in different universes. Thus Gavan of SDA exists separate from Lyra of ROA, who exists separate from Lyra of OTN.

Stardust Accelerator followed essentially the same plot as the first season of 5Ds (Yusei's vendetta against Jack, escaping Satellite, the Fortune Cup), and for the most part you could assume your story was concurrent with Yusei's, which progressed as normal save for the events you experienced in his place.

Reverse of Arcadia dealt with the Dark Signers and Team Satisfaction (Enforcers) plotlines. I didn't get to cover this, but ultimately you took Crow's place in the story, being a badass normal who is recognized by the Crimson Dragon as worthy of becoming a Signer for your courage and skill...not to mentioned you joined a battle you weren't obligated to participate in. In an odd dissonance between the anime and game plotlines, however, Speed World 2 was used in-game while the anime was still using Speed World for Turbo Duels. Which is fine, Turbo Duels in SDA were terrible.

Over the Nexus...well, jumps around a bit. We're right now playing between the time when Team Satisfaction/the Enforcers took control of Satellite and when Kalin decided they needed to take on Sec2. We'll have a bit of a time skip as the Enforcers dissolve, Kalin dies/is reborn as a Dark Signer, and all of seasons 1 and 2 happen. We'll go straight into the World Riding Duel Grand Prix - WRGP. Which is the season that just started stateside.
